About Ronald McDonald House South Dakota

For more than 40 years, our chapter has been part of this community. It started in 1983 with one nine-bedroom House on Norton Avenue — the 55th Ronald McDonald House to open worldwide. Since then, we have grown to two Sioux Falls locations. Today, we serve families from across South Dakota and the surrounding region.

Ronald McDonald House Global now operates 394 Houses in 275 chapters worldwide. We are proud to be part of that global network. We are also deeply rooted in the communities we serve here at home.

Since opening our doors, we have welcomed more than 21,600 families. We have provided over 156,000 nights of comfort, care, and community, all at no cost. And we are not done growing.

Construction is underway on our first Ronald McDonald House in Rapid City. This will bring our mission to western South Dakota for the first time.

None of this would be possible without our donors, volunteers, and community partners. They have believed in this mission from the very beginning.

Family Stays is more than a saying — it’s our promise to the families we serve through our programs and services. Ronald McDonald House is more than just a place to sleep. It’s where families stay strong, stay hopeful, and stay together when it matters most.

Everything we do starts with one belief: families belong together, especially when a child is sick. That belief guides how we work, how we welcome families, and how we build partnerships across South Dakota and our surrounding region.
